As I write this post, I’m 30,000 feet in the air, on an American Airlines flight headed to New Jersey. The last time I was on a plane was, funnily enough, exactly a year and a half ago, to the day.
If you’d told me back then that it would be 18 months before I’d fly again, I’d have told you that you were nuts.
I rent cars pretty frequently when I travel, whether for work or for pleasure. When I do, the rental agency has me sign off on the various terms of the agreement.
Will there be any additional drivers? Did I want their insurance coverage or did I have my own? Did I want to take advantage of their fuel option or would I prefer to fill the tank myself prior to return? All pretty standard stuff.
But sometimes, that last question takes a little twist.
Perspective is the ability to sit back and (more objectively) assess what a particular situation really means for your relationships, your work and your life. And it’s usually a very difficult thing to have when you’re right in the heat of the moment.
When you’re in the midst of it, things can seem like they’re do or die. Sometimes that may be the case but, more often than not, what’s happening is that we’re not actually processing all inputs effectively (or at all) so as to make an appropriate judgement, just the ones that are the most prominent to us at the time.
